Each time a significant honors show nears, there’s always an outcry for introducing fresh award types to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for board games, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.
The Representation Problem
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category that year
- Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
- Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge game development, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
